Research

  • Do you need biological knowledge?
    chat Students
No prior knowledge required. You can learn them when you need.
  • Is programming skills necessary
    chat Students
You need to write codes for simulations.
  • What kind of skills will you gain in this lab.
    chat Students
    Presentation skills, Logical thinking.
    chat Teachers
You will acquire the ability to think logically through your daily research and thesis. The basic abilities you will acquire will not vary in any laboratories, but the stronger your interest in the research being conducted, the more suited and interesting the research is to you, the more motivated you will naturally become, and the easier it will be to acquire various abilities.
  • What is the research process will be like?
    chat Students
First, we reads papers and accumulates knowledge about our own research field. Then, we formulate and test some hypothesis that may be useful in solving the research problem. Once the results are obtained, we discuss them and revise the hypothesis. This is a repetitive process. In addition, we have a meeting with the professor about once every two weeks, where he gives us advice on the content of our study and future plans. If your research progresses, you can participate in research meetings and international conferences! Finally, you will write and submit your thesis (master's thesis), and after the presentation, you will graduate!
  • What kind of students are suited for the Wakamiya Laboratory?
    chat Teachers
I think it is whether you are interested in the research content of the Wakamiya Laboratory. There is no problem on things like "I am not good at XXX". The students in the lab and the teachers will support you in these areas. We welcome students who like to try things out and take on new challenges. We would like students who are willing to challenge various things, such as organizing study groups among students.
  • What are the teachers like?
    chat Students

  • How is the student's research topic determined?
    chat Students
When you are assigned to a laboratory, the professors will propose several research themes. The students will decide on their research theme after consulting with the students assigned to the laboratory at the same time.
  • How much do you usually read papers?
    Is the papers English?
    chat Students
There is a weekly rotating course in which students take turns introducing papers. So, at the very least, you will be assigned to your own case when it comes, but you will be strengthened if you call on many of them to solidify your own research foothold. I sometimes read papers in Japanese, but the more useful papers tend to be presented at international conferences, so I inevitably read English papers more often.

Daily life

  • How often do you go to the lab.?
    chat Students
No core time. So it depends on the students.
    Students come when they want.
It's better to come as much as possible so you can have more time to write your thesis or master's thesis.
    chat Teachers
You should come every weekdays to the lab to study.
If you come to the lab and exchange ideas with other students daily, you will not forget any deadlines, and it will be easier to come up with new ideas for your own research.
  • Is reserach in Wakamiya lab busy?
    chat Students
It is possible to do part-time jobs.
However, you'll be busy near the deadline of the bachelor/master thesis, so you should not do them near thouse seasons.
    chat Teachers
You can have a part-time job, but I don't think you should put all your energy into your part-time job.
As a student, your time is limited, so you should think carefully about where you spend it, such as investing time in improving your skills, rather than being blinded by immediate money.
  • What kind of facilities are there in the laboratory?
    chat Students
High-grade computers for simulations, desktop PCs, laptop PCs, desks, expensive chairs are provided.
  • What kind of events are there?
    chat Students
Cherry blossom viewing, welcome party for new students, laboratory trips, year-end parties, graduation celebrations, etc.
  • Is it hard?
    chat Students
It is quite similar in all labs, but the first time in doing reserach is HARD.
However, I think we can overcome this problem by supporting each other with our lab mates.
  • Is mac comuputers available?
    chat Students
    Of course!
