school Exploring the challenges of information and communication technology
Wakamiya Lab. is challenging to solve technical problems for the development of information and communication technology. In particular, with the development of wireless communication technologies such as 5G/6G, the following new use cases are emerging.
- Ultra-multiple sensor devices: In the IoT scenario, ultra-multiple sensors send packets periodically or irregularly. In the 5G/6G scenario, this is called massive machine-type communications (mMTC).
- Ultra-multiple-vehicle communications: Vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications are becoming more and more important as automated driving becomes a reality. As more and more things, such as pedestrians, communicate with vehicles, it is also called vehicle-to-everything (V2X).
- Ultra-multiple drone communications: UAV-to-drone (U2U) and drone-to-everything (U2X) are needed for drone deliveries and for drone base stations to support wireless networks.
In addition, the following new wireless communication technologies are emerging.
- non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA): Multiple signals can be received from a single resource using interference elimination techniques.
- grant-free (GF): Autonomous decentralized communication without communication with base stations. It is considered an important elemental technology because it does not consume bandwidth due to control signals, and delays caused by communication with base stations can be suppressed.
We are conducting research to identify and formulate various technical issues that arise when applying the above new wireless communication technologies to such new use cases. To this end, we combine analytical techniques such as stochastic geometry using space point processes and optimization techniques learned in life such as particle swarm optimization to show interesting properties and characteristics in new use cases. The technical issues and findings discovered in this research are also leading to the realization of Bio-ICT.
